Surface Management and Treatment System

Superdome, after Hurricane Katrina (New Orleans, LA)Surface Management and Treatment System (SMTS™) is a specially formulated two-part system that efficiently inhibits and kills mildew, mold and fungi and then seals in the sterile surface which prevents mold from reoccurring.

Once water has intruded in a structure, the moisture content increases in the affected substrate, which renders it susceptible to mold and mildew infestations. This SMTS two-step product will sterilize the infected surfaces and kill any live multiplying microbial cells with Part A, and then Part B will seal in the disinfected area and inhibit anything from re-growing. This application is backed by an 18-month guarantee. Both Part A and Part B products are available in either a concentrated or ready-to-use formula.

SM1 – Part A combats and disinfects a broad range of fungi, mold, bacteria and viruses for a wide range of applications. The presence of quaternary ammonium compounds in Part A increases the effectiveness of the system, while still maintaining its non-toxic and non-carcinogenic solvent properties. It contains quaternary ammonium compounds that increase this systems’ effectiveness, while still boasting nontoxic, and non-carcinogenic solvent properties, and is approved by both Health Canada, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the U.S.

SM1 – Part B is an effective sealant that binds in the effects of Part A.

SMTS™ Applications

Lumber Industry
The logging industry is a vast industry that has been around for centuries. An average of 50% of the freshly-sawn log can be lost due to fungal contamination if it isn’t properly treated. Our product will inhibit the growth of these detrimental fungi, and can be applied directly to the log by brush, spray, or dipping.

Paper Industry
Whether it’s for paper currency, printing paper, packing paper, or cardboard shipping boxes, our product will extend the structural life and integrity of the material. It can be incorporated into the sizing step or can be applied by spray, dip, or brush to the finished or near-finished product with no loss of efficacy. The product is light-stable, and adds maximal protection for a minimal price.

Textile Industry
The product can be applied to the threads at the weaving stage, and the fabric used to make anything from bed sheets to oven mitts, and more. The resulting products will have antimicrobial characteristics, and will stop cross contamination and prevent bacterial, viral and fungal infections from re-occurring. This makes it an excellent choice for any application with a high risk of spreading contamination, such as hospital bed sheets or children’s clothing.

Construction and Remediation
SMTS™
can be applied to interior and exterior walls and structural members during construction to substantially reduce the chances that fungal infestations can penetrate into these members, preventing potentially significant damage. Additionally, SMTS™ can also be applied to an active infestation, killing the infestation and preventing new growth. For example, after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast in August 2005, surviving structures were exposed to high levels of bacteria and fungi. The Superdome in New Orleans was used as a shelter, and part of it was treated with our SMTS™ system as part of the remediation.

For maximum effectiveness, SMTS™ should be used in conjunction with systems to prevent water leaks and seepage.
