Agriculture
PDS™ is an ideal product for the agriculture industry. It has already been tested successfully in Florida citrus groves, an industry that is quickly being threatened by the infestation of the virulent canker-causing bacteria Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri. Infected trees develop sores (or cankers) on the leaves, stems and fruit, and the bacteria are spread readily in the air, a problem that is considerably exacerbated during the hurricane season in the southern United States, where many of the country's citrus orchards are located. The spread of this bacterial infection used to be controlled by cutting down and burning infected trees as well as all the trees within a certain radius around the infected tree. However, as orchards are not able to obtain burn permits during the dry season, this option is not very practical. Using our non-toxic PDS™ as a carrier, the pesticides and fungicides have been more effective, this in turn means much lower losses due to contamination and infestation. PDS™ has been used successfully in the fields of strawberries, sugar cane, wheat, blueberries, corn, and other crops susceptible to microbial infestation.
