Thermal-Lube's mission is to provide "quality solutions" for our customers' lubrication needs, whether it be formulating a specialty lubricant or developing an analytical device for condition monitoring or product analysis.
The company's policy of reacting to the needs of its customers and keeping up-to-date with the latest international environmental demands has enabled Thermal-Lube to formulate, manufacture, and sell a complete product line of high quality, environmentally friendly, synthetic oils and greases for both the industrial and retail markets.
Thermal-Lube's well-deserved reputation for quality is a direct result of the company's philosophy which focuses on: strict quality control of our products; working closely with customers to meet their specific needs; and new product research and development.
At Thermal-Lube, quality is checked at every stage of production; from raw materials entering the plant, through each stage of the manufacturing process, and again as the finished products are packaged and readied for shipment. Our in-house

laboratories are equipped with all the equipment necessary to verify the quality of the products we use and/or produce. Thermal-Lube also contracts specialized commercial labs and employs their services for calibration, collaboration, and third-party testing whenever required. Our plant currently operates under the specifications of ISO 9001:1994 and is in the process of updating to ISO 9001:2000.

Perhaps the most important factor in making us such a unique company is the collaborative relationship we develop with our customers. We work closely with them to clearly understand their needs and then combine our expertise to determine the ideal product to

meet those needs. Often such a product doesn't exist, so we will work with the customer to develop an "application-specific" lubricant. Under these circumstances we offer our customers the benefit of our patented COAT® system technology, closely monitoring the usage of the product and making whatever adjustments or formulation modifications are needed.

As Thermal-Lube carries out the condition monitoring of these fluids, we are constantly looking for new "chemistry" that may enhance their performance. This system has already led to the development of many products which were previously non-existent, and this process will continue into the future. Our ongoing scientific research into various chemicals and blending methods is sure to keep us on the cutting edge of our industry. In the development of any new products, one of the factors that we always keep in mind is the impact these products will have on the environment, and we make every effort to be as environmentally-friendly as possible.

*HISTORY

Thermal-Lube Inc. was founded in Lachine, Quebec in October of 1983 as a small lubricant manufacturer. Over the next few years, many new products were developed, and our customer base grew. We also became more heavily involved in research and condition monitoring of lubricants. This rapid expansion meant that additional space was required, so in 1989 we relocated to our current premises in Pointe Claire, Quebec. Today, we are well-known in the industry as a developer of specialty lubricants, and we have developed an excellent reputation as being "innovative", service-oriented, problem solvers.
Some interesting milestones for our company:

  • In 1993, Thermal-Lube established a permanent representative office in Beijing and developed an innovative and secure strategy to penetrate the enormous Chinese lubricant market. We have successfully registered four joint venture partnership companies in the Peoples' Republic of China where a variety of lubricants are being manufactured using Thermal-Lube's concentrated additive technology.
  • In 1994, Thermal-Lube completed the "R & D phase" of the first Continuous Oil Analysis and Treatment (COAT®) System. This research, in collaboration with Montreal's McGill University, is based on Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR) technology. The COAT® System is used to monitor "real-time" lubricant additive depletion, and is capable of automatically re-dosing depleted performance additives, thereby increasing the fluid's useful life.
  • In 1997, Thermal-Lube, in partnership with McGill University's IR Group, won an "honorable mention" for their joint research in Lubricant Degradation. This was awarded in a Canada-wide competition sponsored by the Conference Board of Canada and NSERC.
  • In 2001, Thermal-Lube was assessed, audited, and registered by SGS International Certification Services Canada, Inc. as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:1994 in the "Design and manufacture of specialty lubricants and analytical equipment" as per certificate number 2598/01
  • Thermal-Lube has recently been recognized by both the Canadian and Québec governments as an accredited research institution, and is therefore eligible for Federal research funding for hiring successful university graduate and post-graduate scholarship candidates.

*SALES / MARKETING

HISTORY

Our experience in marketing specialty lubricants has proven that it is virtually impossible to penetrate all markets using a single approach. As a result, we rely on a sales strategy that combines direct sales to end-users and retailers with a network of sales agents and warehousing distributors. In addition, we custom-blend products to be sold under private label.

Direct sales
In-house sales people, working exclusively for the company, are responsible for these sales, visiting customers on a regular basis. Geographical constraints limit us to working a territory that covers approximately a 150-mile

radius from our manufacturing plant in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Within this territory we have a diverse group of customers representing virtually every manufacturing industry and operating environment.

Sales agents and Manufacturer's representatives
This group, working on a commission basis, addresses a market that otherwise would not be serviced. The agent's/representative's role is to operate in markets or territories that are too small for a distributor, or too remote to be serviced directly by head office. At present, Thermal-Lube works with more than 35 sales agents or manufacturer's representatives across Canada, Europe and the United States.
Warehousing distributors
This group, which addresses urban markets outside Montreal, stock our products and have their own sales force working in specific, non-exclusive territories. Warehouse distributors buy directly from Thermal-Lube and resell under Thermal-Lube's registered trade names (EKXEL & POLYON) at our published suggested retail price. At present, Thermal-Lube is selling to more than 20 warehouse distributors in regions across Canada and the United States.
Retailers
This group currently services mainly the "Do-It Yourself" automobile owners market. This market represents one of the largest growth-potential markets for synthetic lubricants.
Private Label
Thermal-Lube will private label products to be sold under our customer's brand names. Currently, we are custom-blending our products for a number of companies including other lubricant companies and original equipment manufacturers.
